This Month's Discoveries: October Edit

October marks a few big events from Black History Month to Diwali and Halloween so this month's discoveries are a range of things that we have been loving in the studio from book and film recommendations to ways to celebrate each event.

1. Small Business: Nimiiny

One of our recent small business discoveries is handmade clothing brand , Nimiiny. They make fabulous shirred and ruffled tops with unique necklines from locally sourced. natural fabrics. We're obsessed with the Odyssey top!

2. It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover

If you read the famous It Ends With Us novel, you'll be thrilled to know that the long awaited sequel launched this month called, It Starts With Us. If you're looking for a dark yet romantic novel to get stuck into, this one's for you.


3. Nobody Panic Podcast

A hilarious podcast hosted by comedians, Tessa Coates and Stevie Martin covering topics from How to Stop Worrying your Friends Hate You' to their latest 'How to Navigate the Cost of Living Crisis' in their informative yet comedic approach.


4. The Way They See Us Exhibition

"The Way They See Us" is a fictional narrative series by Jacqueline Suowari based on socio-cultural references from the artist’s hometown of Osubi in Delta state, Nigeria. It bears the idea of embracing differences, with tribes united through love, curiosity and acceptance.

5. Gymkhana Restaurant

If you want to embrace Diwali through Indian cuisine this month, Gymkhana are offering a five-course menu between October 21–31st. Expect sharing dishes such as Amritsari pink shrimps and queenies with dill raita; wild muntjac biryani, pomegranate and mint raita; and saffron pistachio kulfi falooda.


6. Curated Makers Market

This month, Curated Makers are running pop-ups in Leeds, Sheffield and in the recently opened Battersea Power Station showcasing a range of products from independent brands, a great opportunity to see some of your favourite small businesses IRL as well as discovering new ones!


7. Hocus Pocus II

The Witches are back, almost 20 years later with a sequel to the much loved classic. You can watch the original on the big screen at Backyard Cinema for a Halloween experience and watch the latest one in the comfort of your own home on Disney Plus.

8. The Woman King

The Woman King is the remarkable story of the Agojie, the all-female unit of warriors who protected the African Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s with skills and a fierceness unlike anything the world has ever seen. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 94%, this film is well worth a cinema trip this month.
